Abstract
257,358. Thomas, R. E., and Billetop, T. C. June 8, 1925. Hatches and hatchways. - The slidable hatch webs or beams are provided with end rollers which work between upper and lower guides carried by the coaming. The beam A comprising the central web plate a, Fig. 5, and top and bottom angles a<2> is provided with rollers F which work in the guides E<1> riveted to the hatch coaming B. The beams carry other vertically-mounted rollers G which bear against the vertical faces of the guides E which are provided with lips e<4> which prevent lateral displacement of the beams. The beams are held in their spaced position by pins P which pass through holes in the guides E and in the bracket which supports the roller F. The hatch beams, when the hatch ways are in use, may be stowed on a bracket supporting an extension of the hatch coamings. In modifications, a second set of rollers may be provided working on an upper set of guides; or the guides may be arranged outside the hatch coaming, and the spindles of the rollers may work in a slot cut in the coaming which may be strengthened by a member encasing the interior of the spindle. According to the Provisional Specification, the hatch beam may be pivoted to the hatch coaming.
