Abstract

201,072. Palmer's Shipbuilding & Iron Co., Ltd., and Ledgard, P. Sept. 6, 1922. Barges.-In barges of the kind comprising a deck supported by two or more semi-cylindrical hulls a disposed with their axes parallel, each hull is comparted by transverse bulkheads b and the hulls are connected by deep transverse webs m in line with the bulkheads. The plates c, each the length of the compartment terminating at a bulkhead are attached at their ends to T-bar frames to which the bulkhead are also secured. The plates are strengthened by longitudinal angles e bracketed at their ends to the bulkheads, and frames h are provided which run continuously round the hull intermediately of the bulkheads. The deck coaming v has openings which are closed by boards dropped horizontally into vertical channels in the coaming. The cargo is carried on deck between the coamings, and is protected by tarpaulins secured to eye plates y on the external vertical brackets w.
