Abstract

295,458. Lanham, W. S. June 30, 1927. Collapsable casks. - Relates to collapsable drums or casks. According to the invention a drum is provided with a rolled sheet metal body a which is nailed &c. to a wooden stave h having a bunghole k. Dished metal ends b, c are located by registering projections and recesses m and the drum is temporarily erected and held in position during fastening by lugs on clamping members d which are secured to the ends of the stave h. These lugs pass through slots in the body a, and are bent on themselves to hold the body in position during fastening. The outer ends of the body a may be turned over or beaded to provide additional security and registering annular grooves and projections may be provided in the body and ends. Paint, red-lead &c. may be interposed between the body and the dished ends to ensure fluid tightness. To open the drums &c. the stave h is split, and is replaced when the drum is used again.
