Abstract

293,634. Armstrong, J. J. V., (Union Special Machine Co.). Dec. 1, 1927. Chain-stitching.-A looper 10, Fig. 1, is oscillated from a crank 22 of a rotary shaft 20 located beneath the work support 9, by a pitman 23, rock shaft 18, lever arm 17, and links 14. The looper is given its needle avoiding movement by an eccentric 25, Fig. 5, on the shaft 20 and an arm 24 on a rocking looper support 13. The pitman 23 has an under-thread take-up arm 27, Fig. 3, extending rearwardly between two under-thread guides 35. The length of the take-up arm is varied by means of a screw 30 and slot 29. Feed by dogs.-The feed bar 40 is oscillated by a lever 41 and is lifted and lowered by the eccentric 25 of the needle-avoiding mechanism of the looper, by means of an arm 43.
