Abstract

285,601. Armstrong, J. J. V., (Union Special Machine Co.). Dec. 10, 1926. Chain stitching and double loop stitching; needles, driving.-A threaded looper 9 is oscillated by mechanism comprising a crank 29 on the main shaft, a link 30 pivoted to an elbow lever 32 oscillating about a fixed pivot 33, and a link 34 connected to an intermediate point on the elbow lever and to a crank on the looper-shaft 8. During the movement of the crank represented by the arc b the looper is retracted, while its forward movement is represented by the much shorter arc a, thus providing for a rapid entry of the needle-loop. The needle-avoiding movements of the looper are imparted to the loopershaft by an eccentric 28 connected by a strap to a lever 23 linked to a sleeve 25 mounted between collars on the shaft. The needle-bar 5 is actuated from a crank-pin 16 connected by a link 15 to a lever 12.
