Abstract
397,332. Sewing-machines. UNION SPECIAL MACHINE CO., 400, North Franklin Street, Chicago, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Rubel, C. F. and Wyleta, A.; 400, North Franklin Street, Chicago, U.S.A.) Oct. 28, 1932, No. 30236. Convention date, July 25. [Class 112.] A machine of the scale-pan type has a loop spreader oscillated in a single plane and positioned so that the looper thread is placed on the spreader by the lateral movement of the looper. The needle 35 reciprocates horizontally at the front where the fabric is gripped by the feed wheels 4. The fabric sections pass in a vertical plane cutting the needle at an acute angle. The needle bar 36 is reciprocated by a link 37 which is pivoted at 39 to a link 38 co-operating with a crank on the shaft 13. A thread carrying looper 41 co-operates with the needle. The looper 41 is mounted on a support 42 mounted in turn for oscillation and endwise reciprocation in a sleeve bushing 43 provided with a ball stud engaged by an eccentric strap 45. As the main shaft 13 rotates this strap imparts oscillations to the looper to move it into and out of the needle loop. Another sleeve carrying the ball stud 48 is mounted on the looper support 42. This ball stud is connected to an arm 49 integral with a sleeve carried by the shaft 50 and oscillating between collars. The sleeve has a second arm 51 carrying a ball stud 52 connected to an eccentric strap 53 co-operating with an eccentric 54 on the shaft 13. This mechanism imparts endwise movements to the looper. A loop spreader 55 co-operates with the looper. It is fixed to a support 57 oscillating in a sleeve bushing 58 operated by the eccentric strap 61. In Fig. 7, the looper 41 is shown as positioned above the fabric edges and inside the vertical .plane of the fabric sections, the spreader 55 having engaged and opened the loop for entry of the needle 35. A stitch finger 62 is provided. Specification 374,331 is referred to.
