Abstract

336,360. Tittel, G. Aug. 24, 1929. Zigzag feed; hem-stitching machines.- In a sewing-machine capable of making various stitches, the material is fed forwards by the usual dogs, and is moved at right angles to the line of feed by a frame. The feed-dogs 8 are operated in the known way. The sideways feed-plate 7 is connected by a rod 5 to an eccentric strap 2 driven from the looper shaft 1. The throw of this eccentric may be varied from nil to the maximum by the screw 3 and bell-crank 4, for sewing straight seams or seams with zigzag stitches of varying lengths. The plate 7 slides in guides in the throat plate 6. The feeddogs 8 are mounted to move sideways with the plate 7. For embroidery work, the feed dogs are lowered to inoperative position by the screw 9 and lever 10. For producing hole embroidery, a circular plate. 12, pivoted about the pin 11, is placed on the throat plate 6 above the members 7 and 8. A pin 13 engages in the plate 7 to cause oscillation of the plate 12, the amount of which can be varied by the screw 3. The plate 12 prevents contact between the serrated surfaces of the members 7 and 8. The material is turned about an upstanding pin 14.
