Abstract

288,155. Torgersen, D. March 31, 1927, [Convention date]. Darning.-The work support in a machine for darning by knitting consists of a hollow frame 20 movable transversely to the needle bed 1 on pins 23 under the influence of weights which act against a spring 24. The needles 4 are provided with pointed ends to penetrate the work and when projected to take yarn from the carrier 44 pass through a slot 37 in a frame 36. The upper edge 40 of the slot forms a latch-opener. Another latch-opener 9 is mounted on arms pivoted to the needle-bed at 13 and supported by a spring 15, the tension of which .may be varied. The frame 36 is mounted on an arm 35 carried by a slide 6 ,and prevents the work from being forced outwards by the needles. A flat strip 42 on the frame 36 or on the guide 44 prevents the latches from being closed at the wrong time. A latch closer consisting of a plate 45 with a sharp lower edge 46 is mounted to slide on or lift slightly away from the frame 36 under the influence of a spring.
