Abstract
286,682. Superheater Co., (Assignees of Armacost, W. H.). March 9, 1927, [Convention date]. Tubes of special section.-A series of heat - exchanging elements 3 having in termediate portions having passages for fluid occupying a greater space transversely than in another direction, and capable of resisting high internal pressure without distortion, for example a parallel series of tubes, are mounted in a passage 1 and, according to their position about their longitudinal axes, determine the free flow area through the passage. Thus, with the elements in the position shown, the free-flow area is at a minimum. If each were twisted through 90, the free-flow area would be a maximum. The elements may be fixed as shown in U-bends 8 in glands 9 or may be expanded into tube plates at the desired angle. Specifications 6304/15 and 100,223, [both in Class 83 (i), Metal articles &c.], are referred to.
