Abstract

286,669. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. March 8, 1927, [Convention date]. Samples furnished. Anthanthrone derivatives. - Vat dyes of the anthanthrone series are obtained by condensing a halogenated anthanthrone with an aminoanthraquinone, or a derivative or substitution product thereof, in the presence of an acid-binding agent and a catalyst, e.g. copper or a copper compound or salt. In examples, synthetic dibromanthanthrone (from 1 : 1<1>-dinaphthyl-4 : 4'-dibrom-8 : 8<1>-dicarboxylic acid) and the di-bromanthanthrone obtained by brominating anthanthrone in oleum are heated with alpha- or #-aminoanthraquinone or with 1-benzoylamino-4-(or 5-) aminoanthraquinone ; the products dye cotton in various shades of grey, blue, or brown from a hydrosulphite vat. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers also to the condensation of tri or tetra-bromanthanthrones with three or four molecules of an aminoanthraquinone, e.g. monobenzoyl-1 : 5-diaminoanthraquinone. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
