Anthraquinone acridones. - The aminoanthraquinones or derivatives thereof employed in the process of the parent Specification are replaced by halogenated amines of the benzene or naphthalene series, such as chloranilines, 2 : 5-dichloraniline, 3:5- dibromaniline, 3 : 4 : 5 - trichloraniline, and 1 - amino-4 : 8-dichlornaphthalene. The amines may in some cases act as solvents, or other high-boiling solvents may be added. The products are vat dyes and can be used as starting materials for the manufacture of other dyes. In examples, trichloranthraquinoneacridone is heated (1) with a large excess of 2 : 5-dichloraniline, sodium acetate and copper chloride, (2) with 3 : 5- dichloraniline, naphthalene and sodium acetate, and (3) with 3: 4: 5-trichloraniline, sodium carbonate, copper powder and naphthalene; the products dye cotton from the hydrosulphite vat in strong bluish-green shades. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) is not restricted to the use of halogenated amines of the benzene or naphthalene series, but covers the use of halogenated aromatic amines in general. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
