Abstract
305,488. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Feb. 3, 1928, [Convention date]. Phthaloylphenanthridones are obtained by treating phenanthridone with phthalic anhydride in the presence of an aluminium halogenide such as aluminium chloride. The products are apparently monophthaloylphenanthridones and are vat dyes and/or intermediates for the production of dyes. In an example, phenanthridone is melted with phthalic anhydride and aluminium chloride ; the product, after boiling with dilute hydrochloric acid and vatting with alkaline hydrosulphite, is separated into two isomeric phthaloylphenanthridones by means of nitrobenzene or trichlorbenzene. The more soluble monophthaloylphenanthridone obtained dyes cotton from a reddish-brown vat . in fast. yellow shades, while the product difficultly soluble in trichlorbenzene dyes cotton a paler yellow. Specification 8704/11 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers to the treatment of derivatives and substitution products of phenanthridone with phthalic anhydride or a derivative or substitution product thereof in presence of a condensing agent. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
