Abstract

Sashes balanced one against another; sashes balanced by weights; sash weights; frames. - Two sliding sashes are balanced one against another by a cord connected thereto and passing over guide pulleys and around a pulley 14 on a movable weight 10. Each weight has a wire cable 9 adjustably connected to its upper and lower' ends, passing around guide pulleys at the top and bottom of the frame, and is adapted to be braked at the lower pulley so as to fix the weight in position. The, brake consists of two pivoted shoes 16, Fig. 9, adapted to be engaged with the cable by a lever 17 and a connecting link 19 operated by a cam 20 on the link and a handle 22, Fig. 6. The balance weights may also be fixed by clamping between parallel links 77, 78 mounted on levers 71, 72, which are movable by means of a link 79, Fig. 14. The cables 9 may be braked by two operatively connected pivoted clamping members 51, 52 operated by links 55 and a common operating lever 58, Fig. 13, a spring stop acting on the squared stem 58. The balance weights may be adjustable by separate grooved weights adapted for insertion between the ribbed sides 30 of a holder 10, Fig. 11.
