Abstract
285,386. Verein f³r Chemische und Metallurgische Produktion. Feb. 14, 1927, [Convention date]. Carbon.-The acidity of charcoal, which has been activated by acidic materials or by salts which owing to hydrolytic decomposition exhibit an acid reaction, is removed by treatment under pressure with milk of lime, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, or other alkaline materials at temperatures over 100‹ C, e.g. 150‹ C. Sufficient alkaline material may be employed to give an alkaline charcoal. The charcoal will remain alkaline when soda is used, but with milk of lime on exposure to the air it becomes gradually neutral owing to absorption of carbon dioxide.
