Vacuum tubes. - In a gas discharge tube for high voltages having an incandescent cathode c and two or more anodes, each anode d is enclosed in an insulating or insulated receptacle attached to a common stem and consisting of a long narrow tube, or of a tube with a wide portion e and a long narrow neck f. The tubes may be formed with double walls, and a metal coating in each enclosure may be connected with the corresponding anode and through a resistance with a separate source of potential to facilitate starting; or the coatings may be connected permanently with the anodes in tubes operating at low voltages.
