Abstract

283,437. Blakeborough, R. A., and Tart, H. Aug. 25, 1927. Actuating-mechanism. - A manually-actuated valve normally actuated by a hand-wheel but adapted in an emergency to be closed by a spring released by a duplex catch has the normal actuating means carried by a slidable crosshead acted on by the spring and guided in an enclosing casing. The upper part c' of the valve spindle has a screw-threaded engagement with a sleeve nut d<1> provided with a hand-wheel e and rotatably mounted in a crosshead g by means of a fixed collar d<2> and a removable one f. The crosshead has arms g<1> projecting through slots h<1> in the casing h, the part of the arms in the slots being square or rectangular in section. The bifurcated catch lever k is pivoted at j to the casing h and has curved parts adapted to pass under antifriction rollers i on the arms g to hold the crosshead in its raised position. The underside k<3> of the arms are inclined so that the catches automatically re-engage when the valve is re-opened after an emergency closing. Lubricating holes are provided at o and p.
