Abstract
205,910. Armstrong, Whitworth, & Co., Ltd., Sir W. G., and Scott, G. July 29, 1922. Actuating-mechanism. - The actuating means of a sluice or other valve are carried by a slidably mounted cross-head adapted to be released in an emergency to permit a quick closing of the valve. The Figure shows the invention applied to a sluice valve actuated by a hand wheel 6 secured to a nut 4 rotatably mounted in a bridge 5 and engaging a screwed spindle 3 secured to the valve. The bridge 5 is acted on by springs 15 and is slidably mounted on pillars screwed into the valve casing, the range of movement being limited by pins engaging key-ways. The bridge is held in its normal raised position against the action of the springs 15 by catches formed on a lever 8 pivoted to the bridge and adapted to engage the ends of the pillars. The lever 8 is normally held in its depressed position by a spring 13 and is raised by a link 12 when it is desired to release the bridge. Specification 195,446 is referred to.
