Abstract

282,970. Richman, P. R. Dec. 14, 1926. Disc apparatus; wheels and other tools.-Polishing or grinding apparatus for hand manipulation comprises a casing carrying gear wheels driven by a flexible shaft or electric motor and having shafts projecting through the bottom of the casing and grinding blocks or polishing pads fixed on the projecting ends of the shafts and interengaging one with another so that portions of the surface acted on by one block &c. will be acted upon by another block to remove any circular markings. In one construction, Fig. 2, a shallow casing A is provided with handles B and carries gear wheels I, J. K on shafts F, G, H projecting through a cover plate L at the bottom of the casing. Plates Q, R, S are attached to the ends of the shafts and grinding blocks or polishing pads W, X, Y are secured to the plates, the edges of the blocks or pads being of involute, dumb bell &c. shape so as to interengage. The plates Q, R, S are formed with transverse flanges Z, a, b engaging in recesses in the grinding blocks &c., which are secured to the plates by screws or bolts. The blocks &c. are driven by a flexible shaft connected to the centre shaft G and the apparatus is manipulated over the surface by the handles B. In the modification shown in Fig. 3 with two grinding blocks &c. an electric motor j is mounted on the casing A which has a handle k and electric supply lead l, the driving gears I, K meshing with a pinion n on the motor shaft m.
