Boxes formed from special blanks; lids; strengthening by folding.-The loose bottom c and lid d of a knock-down box are supported and spaced from the bottom and top edges of the collapsable tubular cody a by a string b which is used to tie up the box and which is threaded through holes or eyelets a<4> in the body a and runs diagonally across the corners thereof where it supports the bottom c and holds the lid in place, the loose ends of the string being then knotted together and secured by a seal; the bottom may be provided with side and end flaps which may extend the height of the box and support the lid, or the lid may be supported on a ledge inside the box. The bottom may be formed of two crossed strips, extensions of which lie against the sides and ends of the box, or it may be formed from a single strip having extensions lying against two opposite sides of the box, a further extension lying beneath the lid and supporting it. The string b may be replaced by two strings, one at each end of the box, or a single string, having bottom and lid-supporting portions running across the box parallel to the sides thereof, may be used. The top and bottom edges of the body may be turned over to stiffen or reinforce them.
