Supporting.-Relates to telephone attachments of the type comprising a clip or support for the telephone receiver mounted by a hinged or ball and socket joint at one end of a fixed or telescopic arm, the other end of which is provided with a ball and socket or universal joint attachment to enable the arm to be moved into anv convenient position and consists in mounting the ball and socket or universal joint at the lower end of the arm on a base clamped to the base of the telephone. Means are also described for depressing the switch hook when the instrument is not in use, without removing the receiver from its clip or support. In the construction, Fig. 5, the receiver is held in a clip C mounted by means of a small ball and socket joint SBJ on a fixed arm A provided at its lower end with a large ball and socket joint LBJ which is mounted on a dog D on the base R. The telephone instrument is pressed against the dogs D, d on the base B by a screw CS. The arm A instead of being of fixed length may be made adjustable. The clip C is provided with four knobs forced on to two rods which are free to rotate in the looped ends of the clip. A flange F is secured on the arm A by a screw member G so that, when the arm is moved into the vertical position, the flange F depresses the switch hook. A metal V may be clamped to the socket of the large ball and socket joint or otherwise attached to the base B or dog D so as to serve as a guide for the arm A. Fig. 6 shows a modified construction in which the arm is made telescopic, the clip C being mounted by a hinge joint on the upper end of the arm A which is provided with a fixed flange F. With this construction, depression of the switch hook is effected by collapsing the arm A as well as moving it into the vertical position. Springs are fitted between the tubes of the telescopic arm.- In both constructions, the large ball joint is provided with a powerful spring and washer W, Fig. 6. According to the Provisional Specification, the ball joint at the lower end of the fixed, adjustable or telescopic arm may be attached to the column of the telephone or to the wall, desk, instrument &c., and a separate attachment for depressing the switch hook comprising a hook catch clamped or clipped to the telephone instrument may be provided.
