Manuscript blocks; block and sheet holders.- In holders for attaching scribbling-paper to a desk telephone, of the kind wherein the paper is held by a spring clip hinged to an attachment upon the pedestal base so that the clip can be alternatively turned down to rest the paper upon the surface of the desk or turned up to rest against the pedestal when not in use, the clip is secured to one end of a rod the other end of which is swivelled to an attachment to the pedestal base. The rod is preferably telescopic, with its two sections secured by a clamping-screw. The attachment to the pedestal base a may comprise a spring metal band b clamped around the periphery of the base by a nut d and screw c at outwardly-directed ends b<1>. A channel-section lug g secured to the band b with its channel vertical has a shackle h pivoted to it by a transverse pin i extending between the flanges of the channel, the shackle also being pivoted by a vertical pin j to a tubular sleeve k in which slides telescopically the rod l carrying the spring clip m at its end. The channel lug g, shackle h, and pins i, j constitute a universal joint permitting either vertical or horizontal movement of the telescopic arm. To maintain the arm in a vertical position, the upper portions of the flanges of the channel lug g are cut at g<1> and slightly pinched together above the cut to form a spring grip, and to retain the arm in a horizontal position the flanges are indented at g<2>. In a modification, the ends of the metal band b overlap and are secured by a stud and milled nut, the stud being on the inner end and passing through a slot in then outer end. In another modification, the lug &c. are secured to a dished plate in which the telephone basestands.
