Abstract

273,500. Ford, R. C. Sept. 21, 1926. Locking by positive detents.-Relates to brake mechanism for perambulators and other hand-propelled vehicles of the kind in which upon release of the handle of the vehicle or relaxation of the forward pressure thereon, the wheel or wheels are locked by the engagement of a bolt with a disc secured to the wheel and consists in means for mounting the bolt and the disc. To permit adjustment of the bolt k in relation to the axle j it is mounted in a casing o which is attached to the axle by a pair of clips x. The bolt is urged into engagement with a notched disc m by a spring p and is withdrawn by a Bowden wire e. The disc m is slit to enable it to be slipped over the axle. It has a flanged and serrated edge m<2> for engagement with the wheel spokes to which it is at. tached by spring wire clips m<3> arranged to pass around the spokes. The clips are pivoted to the disc at one end and engage a pin thereon at the other. A device for controlling the bolt is described comprising a rectangular frame or lever extending along the handle of the perambulator and pivoted thereon and having an arm connected to the Bowden wire, the arrangement being such that when the handle and lever are grasped the bolt is withdrawn from engagement with the disc.
