Abstract
273,179. Ingersoll-Rand Co., (Assignees of Redfield, S. B.). Aug. 4, 1926, [Convention date]. Regulating compression.-Two valved clearance chambers G, H are provided for one end of the cylinder, and an additional valved clearance chamber F and inlet valve opener Q at the other end, fluid pressure means operating the valves and opener to unload in steps. The fluid pressure means comprises a piston valve b actuated against spring pressure by the receiver pressure and supplying fluid in turn through the pipes 1 - - 4 so that in the first step the chamber F is opened; in the second, the pressure fluid leaks away through a passage W and allows the valve to close the chamber, while the two chambers G, H at the other end are opened; in the third, these chambers remain open and the chamber F is reopened; and in the fourth the inlet valve L is also opened. The order of operation may be altered so that, for example, one end is first partially and then wholly unloaded and the other end is afterwards partially and wholly unloaded.
