Friction gearing wherein a shaft b having a race ring B is driven from a shaft a having a double conical race ring A by balls K bearing on a stationary ring R. The conical faces of the race ring A are inclined at different angles to the axes of the shafts. Balls H resting on the edges of holes g in a fixed ring F and stationary ring R permit the latter to engage the friction bails K with a variable pressure.
