Abstract
270,283. Raschig, F., (trading as Raschig, Dr. F.). April 29, 1926, [Convention date]. Thymol; chlorthymol.-1-Methyl-3-hydroxy-4- isopropyl-6-chlorbenzene is obtained by condensing 1-methyl-3-hydroxy-6-chlorbenzene with isopropyl alcohol. This chlorthymol can be converted into thymol by heating an aqueous alkaline solution thereof with iron. In an example, 1-methyl-3-hydroxy-6-chlorbenzene is added to a mixture of isopropyl alcohol and sulphuric acid monohydrate, which, after stirring for a few hours, is diluted with water and left to stand. Specifications 186,202 and 200,151 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes an example in which 1-methyl-3-hydroxy-6-chlorbenzene is heated with zinc chloride and isopropyl alcohol then added. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
