Alarms operated by expansion of liquids. -In a fire-alarm of the kind wherein a column of mercury expands under heat and bridges a pair of electrical contacts, the mercury tube b is carried by a cupshaped member g having a screw-thread k engaging a thread l on a bracket m which may be fixed to a ceiling and carries the fixed contacts d. By rotating the member g the temperature at which the alarm operates is varied. The member g may carry a degree scale. The tube b is enlarged at its upper end and held in the member g by a screw i.
