Abstract

267,138. Soc. Internationale des ProcÚdÚs Prudhomme Houdry. March 4, 1926, [Convention date]. Purifying processes.-Distillation &c. gases employed in the manufacture of synthetic liquid fuels are first passed through a series of purifiers, maintained at 250‹ C. in order to remove separately and successively " mineral " and " organic " sulphur. In a plant comprising two batteries A, B, C and A<1>, B', C<1> for alternative use to permit of regeneration, the first purifiers A, A may be charged with finely divided oxides of nickel on a support of porcelain, clinker, pumices tone or porous earth, and the second purifiers B, B<1> with oxides of copper or iron. A third purifier C or C<1> with a similar charge to that of the first is included if the gases contain steam, since by the action of steam on the metallic sulphides produced in purifier B or B<1> sulphuretted hydrogen is reformed. Regeneration may be effected by air or water gas charged with steam. Thus the purifier A or A<1> is subjected to an air current from a heater K to which a supply pipe J is connected, whilst the purifiers B, C, or B<1>, C<1> are subjected to a water gassteam current from a heater R maintained at 350‹ C. to which a supply pipe Q is connected. The sulphur dioxide leaving the purifier A or A<1> and the sulphuretted hydrogen leaving the purifiers B, C, or B<1>, C<1> are passed to a water vat P. Shunt pipes F, F<1> cut out the last purifiers if the gases do not contain steam.
