Abstract

1533163 Hydrocarbon cracking plant COMPRIMO BV 15 March 1977 [15 March 1976] 10321/76 Heading C5E [Also in Division Fl] A thermal or catalytic hydrocarbon cracking plant comprises: an oil gasification unit 3 for gasification of a heavy residual oil by partial oxidation with oxygen; a gas purification unit 7 for removal of H 2 S from the resulting gas; a gas turbine unit 15 for the generation of electricity from part of the gas leaving the purification unit; a feed duct 12 for passing part of the purified gas from the purification unit to a burner 2 of the cracking or reforming furnace 1; and a feed duct 21 for passing oxygen rich exhaust gas from the gas turbine unit 15 to the burner of the furnace 1. The feed to the furnace 1 is naphtha or natural gas, together with steam which may be produced in a waste heat boiler 23 employing part of the exhaust gas from the turbine. The gas produced in the cracking furnace may be used as an ammonia synthesis gas, optionally after secondary reforming, as shown, but also mentioned is its use in methanol synthesis.
