Abstract
265,676. Winter, R. H., and Daly, H. C. Nov. 9, 1925. Condensers.-In variable electric resistances or condensers of the type in which the resistance or capacity is varied by compressing a conical spring the spring is mounted in an insulating casing containing a stationary element serving as the resistance element or the second plate of the condenser and is operated by means of a screw threaded member acting on its apex. Fig. 1 shows a resistance element comprising a disc of fibre &c. 1 coated with Indian ink or the like connected to a central terminal 2 and cooperating with a conical spring 7 operated by a screwed spindle 10 passing through a nut 12. to which is connected a terminal 15. For a condenser the disc 1 is replaced by a metal plate covered with a sheet of mica or the like. For the screw 10 may be substituted a spindle with a helical groove into which projects a pin attached to the apex of the spring 7. A vernier adjustment may be provided by connecting the spring to the screw device through an adjustable sleeve.
