Abstract

239,072. Dubilier Condenser Co. (1921), Ltd., (Dubilier, W.). Oct. 27, 1924. Condensers. - A variable condenser having relatively-movable elements separated by solid dielectric material is provided with means readily operable from the exterior of the condenser for varying the pressure between the elements in order to effect additional or minute adjustments in the capacity. Tn the form shown, the condenser comprises a fixed element in the form of a disc 14 of conducting material covered with a layer 18 of mica, and a movable element 19 of the form shown in Fig. 7. One end 21 of the movable element is secured to a terminal 23 on the casing, while the other end 20 passes through a slot 12 in a rotatably mounted disc 11, Fig. 6, the movable element being adapted to be laid down upon and picked up from contact with the layer of mica in the manner described in Specification 214,734. The disc 11 is mounted on a hollow shaft 4 provided with an operating knob 38, and is pressed towards the layer of mica by springs 26 secured to a nut mounted on the end of a screw 35 passing through the shaft 4. The pressure of the springs can be adjusted by rotating the screw 35, which in a modification, is provided with a separate adjusting knob for this purpose.
