Abstract

220,207. Collins, A. F. Nov. 29, 1923. Sparking-plugs.-A sparking-plug is fitted with a readily-detachable imperforate cap 20, which prevents gas leakage and protects a micrometer device for adjusting the spark gap. A threaded central electrode 7 which works within a long internally threaded sleeve 10 has at its upper end a cap 14 with external fittings in which engages a spring detent 15 mounted on a washer 16. To permit adjustment of the detent 15 so that electrodes are touching it may engage the fluting marked zero, the detent may be rotated about the axis of the electrode by unscrewing the nut 18. The electrode is threaded 40 threads per inch and 25 flutings are provided on the cap 14, so that the gap between the electrodes will be increased only one-thousand of an inch for each fluting which passes the detent 15 on rotation of the cap 14. The terminal 13 is mounted on a strip 12 clamped between a porcelain insulator 5 and a member 11 screwed on the sleeve 10; by unscrewing the latter the strip 12 may be adjusted to any desired angular position.
