Abstract

263,229. Royce, F. H. Sept. 24, 1925. Driving-arrangements.-In means for driving engine accessories, such as magnetos and superchargers, the crank shaft b drives a gear-wheel d, geared to the magneto &c., by a torsionally resilient shaft c<1>, the drive being also transmitted through a rigid shaft c' when the torsion of the shaft c<1> reaches a predetermined limit. A gear-wheel f geared to the supercharger inhibits torsional vibration. Serrations b<1> in the interior of the shaft b closely engage serrations on a ring c<3>, similarly engaging the end of the shaft c<1>, and loosely engaging serrations c<5> on the shaft c<2>. The opposite ends of the shafts c', c<2> are rigidly connected by serrations, and the gear-wheels d, f are secured to the shaft c<2>. A worm-wheel c frictionally coupled to the shaft c<2> is geared to the starting-handle.
