761,139. Driving gear; power plant. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Aug. 16, 1954 [Aug. 26, 1953; Sept. 14, 1953; June 11, 1954], Nos. 23586/53 25335/53 and 17268/54. Class 7 (2). [Also in Groups XXIV, XXVI and XXXV] In an I.C. engine the crankshaft 80 is coupled to a hollow secondary shaft 82 through gears 83 and the shaft 82 is connected to the output shaft 87 through resilient couplings 85. The output shaft is journalled in a noise suppressing casing 98 in which the engine is held against torque reaction by resilient means 93 which may also serve to support the whole or part of the engine weight. The resilient means are preferably of rubber. Twin parallel crankshafts may be arranged on either side of and geared to the hollow secondary shaft.
