Abstract

262,457. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges., (Assignees of Farbwerke vorm. Meister, Lucius, & Br³ning). Dec. 4, 1925, [Convention date]. Thioindigoid dyes are prepared by condensing a 4:5:6: 7-tetrahalogen-3-oxy-1-thionaphthene (obtained from a 3:4:5-tetrahalogenbenzene-1- thioglycollic-2-carboxylic acid by the usual methods) with a cyclic o-diketone, such as isatin, 2 : 3-diketodihydrothionaphthene, or a substitution product or reactive a-derivative thereof. The products may be further halogenated. According to examples the 4:5 : 6: 7-tetrachlor-3- oxy-1-thionaphthene is condensed with 5 : 7-dichlorisatin, 5:7-dichlorisatin-alpha-chloride, and 7- brom-5 : 6-benzo-2 : 3-diketodihydro thionaphthene-2-p-dimethylamino-anil: the products dye cotton from the vat in violet and brown shades. 3 : 4 : 5 : 6-Tetrahalogenbenzene-1-thioglycollic- 2-carboxylic acids are obtained by interaction of mercaptoacetic acid and diazotized 3:4:5:6- tetrahalogen-1-amino-2-benzoic acids in hydrochloric acid solution in presence of copper powder.
