Abstract

260,703. McCoy, W., and Storey, R. T. May 10, 1926. Skid.-Brake mechanism for motor vehicles and including shoes adapted to be pressed against the ground comprises a pair of arms 1 adapted to be rocked by the brake rod 11 about the axle casing and carrying at their lower ends a roller 3 which runs between guides 7 on the suitably curved top plate 8 of a shoe 9 to press the shoe against the ground and so brake the vehicle. A roller 5 carried on shackles on the spindle of the roller 3 bears on the underside of the plate 8 and supports the, shoe above the ground when not in operation. Each shoe is pivoted to a double eye 15 on the end of a lug 12 bolted to an angle iron 13 secured to the propeller-shaft casing and the stay rods. The shoes are provided with detachable wearing parts 10 and mav be fitted with frost studs.
