Abstract
257,224. Wood, W. R. Aug. 20, 1925, [Convention date]. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces.-In a furnaceshaped boiler having an outlet at its upper part for the gaseous products of combustion and in which pulverulent-fuel burners deliver the fuel and air into the combustion chamber in substantially horizontal streams impinging upon each other, the burners are arranged substantially level with the bottom of the side walls and air is delivered both above and below the burners. A fan 26 forces air through an air heater 23 arranged in the outlet flue 24 and the heated air passes to a duct 28 extending around the lower part of the combustion chamber. The duct is divided by a partition 29 so that part of the air passes through openings 30 surrounding the burners 31 while the remainder passes through openings 32 controlled by dampers 33. Dampercontrolled openings 34 are provided at the bottom of the furnace for the admission of cold air. The boiler tubes 7 enclosing the combustion chamber are connected to lower and upper headers 11, 12. The upper headers are connected by tubes 16 to the header 15 of a small boiler B arranged above the combustion chamber. The lower headers are connected by tubes 14 directly to the header 13 of the boiler B. with the exception of the front header which is connected by tubes 11<b> to a header 11<a> by a tube 14 with the header 13. Tubes 8 arranged across the lower end of the combustion chamber connect the header 11<a> with a header 11<c> connected to the rear header 11. The tubes 7 are provided with overlapping or abutting fins 22 which are interrupted opposite to the fuel and air admission openings. Specifications 237,194 and 237,951 are referred to.
