Abstract

257,183. Soc. Anon. des Engrenages Citroen. Dec. 22, 1925, [Convention date]. Toothed gearing.-In gear casings for reduction or multiplying gear, the high and low speed shafts are received in and pass through vertical or oblique or vertical and oblique recesses 3, 4 in the sides 1 of the casing, so as to admit of relative adjustments when the sizes of the gears are changed &c. The shafts, such as the high speed shaft 4<1>, Fig. 3, are supported in bearings 7 in cast iron boxes 8 which are secured by bolts &c. 10 to bosses 5, 6 on the casing, covers 11, 12 passing over the boxes and being secured to the casing by bolts 11<1>, 12<1>. One cover 11 on each shaft is closed, and the other 12 is slotted to pass the shaft, an adjustable cap 13 preventing oil escape while allowing adjustment of the cover to fit against the under side of the main casing cover 2. The high speed shaft with its bearings 7 is axially self-adjusting. The vertical recesses 3 may be widened to allow of lateral adjustment of the low speed shaft. A screwed sleeve 14 prevents egress of oil from the casing.
