Sand, distributing on wheel tracks. - In a sanding appliance for use on a motor-vehicle of the kind. in which a pipe b passes lengthwise through the sand-box a and is connected to the engine exhaust for strewing- the sand. the pipe is adapted to act continuously as an exhaust pipe, while a sand-box obturator f is provided near its outer end in such a way as not to affect the crosssectional area of the discharge orifice of the pipe. As shown, the obturator surrounds the pipe b within the discharge nozzle e, and consists of a fixed upper portion f and a slidable lower portion g operated by connection with the brake mechanism or with a separate hand-lever.
