Abstract
254,267. Joyce, J. D. June 27, 1925, [Convention date]. Winding-machines; stop-motions.- A yarn-winding machine, particularly for winding double taper-ended cops for loom shuttles, is provided with a progression wheel 22, Fig. 1, mounted on the traverse bar 3 and movable transversely thereof to regulate the feeding of the guide 40 and the taper of the base of the cop being wound, and also with means to adjust the wheel in lateral relation to the winding spindle and the bar as the cop increases in diameter. The wheel is held eccentric of the bar and close to the spindle 2 at the beginning of winding and is adjusted towards its concentric position as the cop increases in diameter. The composite device for actuating the thread-guide 40 is shown in detail in Fig. 5. The wheel 22 is mounted on a bush 23 on the outer surface of a member 15<1> which has a substantially U-shaped bore 27 and arms 16, 18, the former providing an arcuate face 17 and the latter terminating in a forked end adapted to straddle a spring 19. The flange 24 on the bush 23, the wheel 22, and a disc 31 on a bush 30 are connected by a pin 25 while a single tooth 34 is pivoted on the disc 31 and adapted to engage the screwed portion 3a of the bar 3. The guide 40 is carried on an arm 41 having a finger 47 whereby it is connected to the bush 30. At the commencement of winding the gear 34 is pressed out of engagement with the screwed rod 3a and the device moved to the starting position with the face 17 in contact with the conical shaper 8 and with the wheel 22 forced towards the spindle 2 against the action of the spring 19, the member 15' riding with its U-shaped bore on the bush 10. The gear 34 is then engaged with the rod 3a and the wheel 22 remains in this position until engaged by the growing cop. The wheel is then rotated and, through the gear 34, the guide is moved along the rod 3<a>. As this movement continues the face 17 rides out along the shaper 8 and the spring 19 causes the wheel 22 to return to its concentric position on the rod 3a. When the face 17 is free from the shaper 8 the cylindrical winding proceeds. An arm 49 and collar 50 are provided to actuate a stop motion.
