Abstract

258,428. Schweiter, H., and Maschinenfabrik Schweiter Akt.-Ges. Sept. 22, 1925. Winding-machines.-In traverse mechanism of the kind in which the thread-guide rod is reciprocated by two spring-controlled segmental nuts which are alternately engaged with one of two oppositely rotating screwed spindles by means comprising a finger co-operating with a templet, the templet is made displaceable in two directions perpendicular and parallel to the axis of the thread-guide rod. The movement of the templet perpendicular to the axis of the rod is effected manually to vary the length of cop wound and the movement parallel to the axis is derived from a reciprocating part to shape the ends of the cop. Two screwed spindles 2, 3 geared by wheels 5, 6 and driven from a pulley are mounted in a casing 1 and are engageable by segmental nuts 9 carried by a carriage 8 rotatable on, but axially fixed to the thread-guide rod 7. An upstanding arm 10 on the carriage is adapted to engage, when displaced from its central position, inclined bars 12 carried by bellcrank levers 14 attached to springs 15. A wedge-shaped contact finger 16 projecting from the carriage 8 rides above or below a templet 17 as the carriage and the guide rod 7 are traversed by one or other of the nuts 9, its position, i.e. from above to below or vice versa, being reversed at the end of the templet by the stress put on the spring 15. The templet has tapered ends and is carried by an arm mounted in a slide 20 and adjustable to or from the rod 7 by a screw 21 having a milled head 22, so that by varying the distance of the templet from the rod 7 the length of contact between the templet and finger 16 and the length of the cop is adjusted. The slide 20 is displaced longitudinally by a pin 27 engaging a transverse groove in the slide and mounted eccentrically in a shaft 26 rotatable in a bracket 18. The shaft 26 is rotated step by step by a ratchet 31 engaging a toothed wheel 29 on the shaft and oscillated by a lever 30 engaged by a stop 33 on a rod 32 secured to the rod 7. The displacement of the slide 20 and its templet 17 causes the ends of the bobbin to be tapered in form. The control wheel 29 may be kept stationary when it is desired to wind bobbins without tapered portions.
