Connecting uppers to insoles.-In the manulacture of boots and shoes in which a temporary insole is used, an upper h is lasted over a temporary insole e at the forepart and over a permanent partial insole (not shown), but extending from the waist to the heel end as described in the parent Specification. To facilitate repair, a piece of canvas a preferably waterproof is tacked to the temporary insole e and secured to the upper h by a line of horizontal stitches k passing through the upper and an upturned lip c on the insole a. The stitches k are made with the shoe on the last. Lasting tacks i are withdrawn and the sole applied in the usual way, the last being removed and the sole sewn by through-stitching direct to the upper h by a seam clear of the temporary insole a but engaging the permanent partial insole. The temporary insole is then removed and the shoe socked for example as described in the parent Specification.
