Abstract

251,567. Mitchell, W. A. Dec. 29, 1924. Crank shafts.-An integral or one piece crank shaft has chain roller bearings A for the crank pins 2, 2a and or, crank journals 1, 1<a>. The inner races which are hardened may be integral with the crank shaft by providing grooves 1<b>, 2<b> for the rollers, the shaft in the region of the grooves being preferably increased in diameter. To enable the outer race members to be threaded into position on the shaft the shoulders 4 of the webs 3 - - 3<c> may be curved or of semi-cylindrical form and the corners 4<a> thereof may be rounded off. A clearance 2d may be provided on one or both sides of each race between the latter and the crank webs to accommodate the connecting rod big ends while the roller chains are being applied to the inner races, after which the big ends are slid over the rollers into their operative position.
