Abstract
249,429. Collen, R. H., and Broadwood & Sons, Ltd., J. Oct. 24, 1925. Pianoforte framing; soundbcards; wrest-planks; cases.-A wooden back for a pianoforte, of the kind having no bracings, comprises vertical side members a connected by top and bottom horizontal members b, b<1>. The wrest-plank e is glued to the front of the member b, and strengthening strips c, c<1> are glued to the rear of the members b, b'. Flush with the frame and at a short distance beneath the member b is glued a horizontal member f to which the top member h of the soundboard frame is glued. The side and bottom members of the soundboard frame are glued to the side and bottom members a, b<1> of the back. The rear face of the soundboard is also provided with two corner bars, and with the usual diagonal belly-bars k. A hand-rail may extend across the back at the midheight of the members a, or inwardly projecting pegs d may be provided in lieu. The invention is applicable, to horizontal pianofortes. According to the Provisional Specification, bars may be provided in the corners of the back.
