Abstract
249,288. Whitaker, D. Feb. 16, 1925. Endless-track vehicles. - In an endless-track tractor, crane, excavator or the like. the main or vehicle frame is rigidly secured to the endless-track or truck frame at one side of the vehicle and is so connected to the truck frame on the other side that it can rock on that frame. In the construction shown the main frames 15 is fixed at two points 16 to one truck frame 1 and is pivoted at 19, Fig,. 3, to the other truck frame 1<a>. The connection between the frames 15, 1<a> can -be made rigid when desired, by means of screws 22 which work in nuts 20 on the truck frame 1<a> and can be made to engage the main frame, thus stopping all movement about the pivot 19. The ends of the truck frames are connected together by cross-ties 35, pivoted at 37 to the frame 1 and having pin-and-slot connections 38 with the frame 1<a>. The driving sprockets 2 of the tracks 3 are driven from independent shafts 31 each driven through a clutch and gearing from a driving shaft 26 concentric with the pivot 19. The idler sprocket 2 is adjusted by means of screws 11 for tensioning the track.
