Abstract

246,298. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Pollock, A. A. Jan. 13, 1925. Brush-holders. - Relates to brush-holders of the type for receiving a number of axiallyarranged brushes, each having its own tensioning device consisting of a spring bearing on a piece which slides on a radially-disposed arm and engages with a rack on the arm. According to the invention the arm a formed with rack teeth a<3> is separate from the bracket A carrying the brushes and is attached thereto at one end bv a screw e, the other end fitting into a recess between the bracket A and brush box B. The arm a is stamped out of sheet metal, as shown in Fig. 3, and the sides bent over. The slide b is also formed of sheet metal with portions b' bent up to engage the teeth a and lugs b<2> between which is a holder g for the spring c shaped of sheet metal, as shown in Fig. 6. The pivot h is so disposed that the teeth b<1> are held in engagement with the rack by the pressure of the spring c, a notch g<6> in the holder engaging with the edges of the lugs b<2>. The upper end g<3> of the holder g is so formed that when the spring is turned upwards to give access to the brushes it engages frictionally with the plate a and holds the spring in its raised position.
