Abstract
Textile materials composed of mercerized cotton, or cuprammonia-cellulose or viscose silk, are rendered resistant to direct dyestuffs by treatment after alkalization, with aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid chlorides or anhydrides or with aromatic sulphochlorides, such as acetyl chlorides, acetic anhydride, benzoyl chloride, benzoic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, ortho- and para-toluene sulphochloride. By the treatment, the texture and appearance of the materials is to some extent modified. In examples, mercerized cotton and viscose silk are treated with aqueous or alcoholic caustic soda solution, in one case with the addition of pyridine, and then with the chloride or anhydride. Specifications 195,619 and 233,704 are referred to.ALSO:Textile fibres, yarns, fabrics, &c. composed of mercerized cotton, or cuprammoniacellulose or viscose silk, are rendered resistant to direct dyestuffs by treatment, after alkalization, with aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid chlorides or anhydrides, or with aromatic sulphochlorides, such as acetyl chloride, acetic anhydride, benzoyl chloride, benzoic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, o- or p-toluene sulphochloride. The treated products still show affinity for basic, acid, chromium-mordant dyes, and gallocyanine derivatives; and by the treatment, the texture and appearance of the materials is to some extent modified. In examples, mercerized cotton and viscose silk are treated with aqueous or alcoholic caustic soda, in one case with an addition of pyridine, and then with the chloride or anhydride. Specifications 195,619 and 233,704 are referred to.
