239,493. Welter, J. F. Sept.. 6, 1924, [Convention date]. Violin &c. mutes.-A mute 5, the two sets of legs of which are adjustable with respect to each other by means of a screw 10 so as to vary the gripping action on the bridge, is moved by a lever 4 pivoted on a pin 6 secured on a holder 1 clamped to the instrument. To adapt the device to instruments of different sizes, the pin 6 is adjustable along a slot 7 in a plate 2. which plate is hinged at 3 to the holder 1 so that the mute can be folded backwards towards the tailpiece when the instrument is to be put into a case. Stops 13 on a plate 8 limit the vertical movement of the mute, which is. detachably attached by a nut 9 to the vertical rod 12, which rod may be made telescopic.
