Abstract

238,410. Aitken, R., and Vickery, W. T. Oct. 17, 1924. Locking sliding latches; locks, cases for; reversibde latches.-A bodily reversible mortise latch slides in a tube above which is secured a rectangular casing containing the follower and the locking mechanism. The round latch d slides in the tube e to which is secured the casing containing the follower b and the locking mechanism. A fore-end plate g forms the attaching means. The follower b acts on a rod c fixed to the latch and projecting through a slot in the tube e. The rod c limits the forward movement of the latch. The latch is locked in the shot position by a quadrant a engaging a recess in the latch. The quadrant is operated by a key which first moves aside the pivoted member j so that a stud thereon no longer holds the lever i in engagement with the quadrant. Further turning of the key rocks the lever i out of engagement with the quadrant and rocks the quadrant into engagement with the latch. The lever i then drops into engagement with the quadrant to lock it. A spring k also engages serrations in the quadrant to hold it in position.
