Abstract
471,012. Latches. CLAYTON, C. E. EVERY-. (Moffitt Automatic Look Co., Ltd.) Sept. 15, 1936, No. 25170. [Class 44] A latch of the kind in which the bolt is held retracted, when the door is open, by a spring-actuated detent lever which is moved to release the bolt and allow it to shoot when the door is closed, comprises a bolt 12 with conical head 1, shot by a spring 14 and retracted by a follower 18 engaging a projection 19 on the bolt, the follower being operated by handle 21 and spindle 20. A lever 22 pivoted at 23 and biassed by spring 26 engages a.t its rear end 24 with a shoulder 25 on the bolt when the latter is retracted, a stud 27 at the other end of the lever projecting from the casing. When the door is closed stud 27 is pressed in by contact with a plate 29 on the door jamb, releasing the end 24 from engagement. The follower is held in normal position by a spring 31. The stem of bolt 12 is of square section, slidably guided through a corresponding hole in plate 13.
