Abstract
236,858. Field, F., Field, H., and Field, E. March 5, 1925. Feeding openers &c. - An arrangement for feeding cotton &c. waste to willows or other machines comprises an air trunk 3 with branches leading to a number of collecting-chambers 4, 5 one for each, machine, and automatic control mechanism to divert the supply of waste from one chamber to another and to discharge the waste from the chamber thus cut off from the supply. The waste is fed by a continuously running fan 1 along the trunk 3. At the branch 6 leading to the chamber 5 is a valve 7 which can be turned to close the trunk and cause the waste to pass into the chamber 5 or to cut off the chamber 5 and allow the waste to pass into the chamber 4. Each chamber is covered with canvas to allow egress of the air and is provided with weighted doors geared together by quadrants 17, 18. The valve 7 and the doors are operated by tappet arms 27, 28, 39, 38 on shafts 30, 34 driven at the same speed by reducing gearing 33 from the fan shaft.
